Family, Focus & Future
Fortunately, I have lived long enough and survived enough battles, to still have a family. My children are brilliant (as you can see on YouTube), they are skilled in one way or another, and I am blessed to be able to claim a talent, an audience and a crown.
So, now comes 2008. A new year, with a new agenda, and a heightened aggression towards goals and objectives. It’s a time to recognize that that way we did things last year is being copied and imitated by our pursuers; our accomplishments are being assessed. And someone, somewhere is calculating the “tale of the tape.”
Like a boxer does, it’s important to identify the contender, as well as it’s important to pick your fights and have a “strategy” that can assure your success. Part of your strategy might be better products or services; or, you might have to fine-tune what you already have going for you. For sure, you cannot, in this day and age, sit back and rest, and expect to progress. Not unless you’re Bill, or 50, or The Don, assuming that they’ve already made their mark, and have staked their claim and have firmed their foundations.
Most of us—the rest of us—maybe haven’t.
Are you familiar enough with the economic climate of the world that you can make adjustments and switch up your strategy so you can still survive? Are you aware of the state of the industry or the way of life that you intend to make a contribution to? Hmmm.
And, if you think you are “comfy” enough that nothing can change your profit margin your client base or your sense of connectivity, then you are sadly mistaken. Life can change “just like that,” in the blink of an eye, and you can lose ground. Circumstances can arise, and suddenly you are ill prepared to cope, and it digs into your original plans.
The pursuit of happiness is much more than wanting, or confidence, or a “connect.” It’s much more than being web savvy, or talented, or a hard worker. The pursuit I can tell you, after having written my 35th novel, is all about being well-versed in all of these areas. FOCUS on what it is that you want, and do what it is that you must do to own and master the field of your endeavors. That would include the “technical” side of your performance; know all there is to know so that you do not become expendable. Be connected and familiar and a contributor to those that lead in your field. Stay advanced in the ways of communicating. Merely having a “gift of gab” and “being connected” is just not enough to sustain success, since all of that tends to fall into the category of hustler or huckster. Far and away am I from those days when I tried to create something from nothing, and when I tried to get over. And because that was once me, it is SO easy for me to identify with that now. And once I see that, I’m already moving in the other direction. Because I am a master, and masters fall in with other masters, or else they are busy leading the masses.
FAMILY is what keeps us focused. In life there are “nut & bolts” that require us to be part of the “process” which maintains our survival. The minute you break away from that process, you begin to falter and stray off course. Hygiene, good health, and a purposeful state of mind are all part of the “process.” A sound sleep, exercise of the mind and body are also part of the “process.” Think “family,” and you find security and peace of mind. Security and peace of mind make it more acceptable to do the necessary hard work that forgo progress and accomplishment. Finally, the FUTURE is something we all must face, whether we decide to accept it now, or deal with the (good or bad) consequences later. The future is why we are being consistent today. It’s why we are working the muscles now. And it also provides us with a sense of hope—that leap of faith—that our minds can rely on, pray on and aspire towards. Think “future” the next time someone cuts you off on the road, or steps in front of you to board the train. Think “future” the next time your stomach needs nourishment, and you have a choice of either an apple, or a colorful bag of potato chips. Think “future” when you’ve cashed your paycheck and a temptation urges you to spend money on something you don’t need, and which may not be a part of your “agenda of success.”
FOCUS, FAMILY & FUTURE are the sho’ nuff plan that will maintain your course towards being “Great” in 2008!

The day started off on Hunts Point, then there was the freezing toes and fingers on 34th st in Manhattan, and finally the afterwork hours uptown in Mount Vernon. But, don’t you get the idea that I work hard. Nahhh, not me!

Two women (from Baltimore) happen to see me in front of Macy’s. And I just happen to have that hot book Extra Marital Affairs with me!

Be clear: this woman has read every Relentless book and she is affirming who is hottest author of our generation. It’s in her eyes!

Here’s a NYC woman who was so exstatic to see Relentless that she bought 2 copies as gifts! Thank you to everyone for your support!

And is that Relentless in training?
Relentless pole vau france?

Subject: Why not in France?
To: Relentless Aaron

Good afternoon,
I’m sending you this e-mail,because I’m French, and i’m asking why Aaron Relentless are not publishing in France.
I bought “the Last Kingpin” book and I read it (i mean,i tried),and I really liked the story and the style of the author.
I’m a big fan of George P.Pelecanos, and this books reminded me a little bit of this wonderful writer.
I’m sure, that Aaron Relentless could be a very prolific author, here in France, because some of my countrymen really like Gangsta story when it’s good writing.
Thank you for reading me,and i hope i will see some Aaron’s books in french.
Have a nice day
Yannick
Hey Yannick,
I really appreciate your interest in me as a writer, and (as you put it) “a wonderful writer” it seems I was destined to be. And I feel you on the interpretations; just, it’s time, money and resources that will make that come alive. It is also the “demand.” And since that always amounts to numbers, China & Latin America might always come first when it comes to translations. However, as time and technology evolve, things always get easier. YOUTUBE, for instance. Text Messaging, for instance. How much more advanced are we as humans because of these new technologies? The Internet has done incredible things for us, in terms of uniting people with “like minds.” So, if it is to be, at least I am “in the paint” now and have the access necessary to reach certain objectives. Translations is only one.
Thanks again. Glad you enjoyed The Last Kingpin. It is truly a book for focused, savvy readers. Not for the weak-minded!
WORD.
Ask me WHY I am Relentless…

And I’ll ask you where your dream is?

Ask me why I dream,

I’ll tell you, there’s no other way…

Ask me why I’m Relentless…

I’m Relentless Every Day!

by Leslie L. Wayne
New York - It was just 4 years ago this month that Relentless Aaron was released from a 7-year Prison stretch. He had over 3 dozen manuscripts of full-length stories written behind prison walls. His intention was to release a dozen books within a few years, to (as he says) “make an impression on the marketplace.” But Relentless (birth name: DeWitt Gilmore) has in fact done much more than that. Not only has he published books for other authors, including creating book covers, formatting and design, as well as marketing the same, but Relentless has also created an international brand, with fans as far away as Spain, Bermuda, London and Germany. Soldiers overseas request his books. Prisoners still behind the walls swear by his books. And the streets just love him. Have you not seen the dozens of video testimonials on You Tube and Google Video that praise Relentless Aaron as being “Number One” and “the Best” or “ahead of his time?” Have you not seen The New York Times, The Daily News, TIME & EBONY Magazines? Have you not seen the ABC World News Now feature on Relentless Aaron, his worldwide fan base, his hot website and his mountain-moving publishing deals? Do you not know that Relentless is one of the “hired guns” that rapper 50 Cent embraced under the G-Unit/PocketBooks deal last summer? Is it a mystery that Relentless is managed by Violator Management, the biggest and most influential hip hop management company in the world? And did you not hear about the multi-film deal that Relentless Aaron signed with Hollywood heavy, Bill Duke for his hit book PUSH, a movie which LL Cool J will star in?
Frankly, as radio host Olivia Fox says in her recent interview with Relentless, “you have to be living under a rock” to not know about the power of Relentless Aaron. And it’s so much less hype than you would think. First of all, there’s the challenge that Relentless has had to overcome in his release from prison including the cloud of doubt that must’ve been following him through his early “grind.” But, second, who does this; writing over 30 books, publishing about half of them on his own and then walking into the biggest book deal ever signed by a debut author? Who then produces loads of videos to support his brand and the work that he’s done in the streets here in New York as well as in chocolate cities across America? And have you walked into Walden’s, Barnes & Noble or Books A Million lately? Have you walked into Wal Mart? This has got to be the biggest dream come true for Relentless to first realize his goals, and then to supersede them to the degree that he can go from being “behind the wall” to Wal Mart.
And did I forget to mention that Relentless was awarded the title “Author of The Year” at the world’s biggest publishing convention there in it’s Af Am division? Wow. Tomorrow morning, Relentless Aaron could die and his ghost will raise up to shout “WHAT A LIFE!”
You rock Relentless Aaron! and now I’m a fan, too! Woo woo!
Relentless Aaron’s newest book, Lady First, is now in stores everywhere.
Another 1 million readers!
Today, somebody’s Sunday paper is once again blessed with Relentless words of wisdom and intellect. The story is actually about booking agent and founder of the Hip Hop speaker’s bureau, Ms. Saideh Page Brown, who’s love for hip hop and growth behind the scenes of the business has encouraged her to corner the market in her own unique way. However, this marks yet another million (or so) impressions in the stockpile of Relentless press clippings since the Herald News has it’s as well as it’s on line audience.
Here’s the full article. Thank you one and all for your well-wishes and support that has placed me in this world of “positive press.” WORD.

I just received a letter from my buddy Emory (along with the photo) and I was brought to write this BLOG with respect to how important this man was in my life.
We were both locked up in Fort Dix, NJ and outside of his routine card games (and my routine writing) we spent much quality time together. It was a growing relationship even though I was mostly out of sight, buried in my writing somewhere. We’d grub together, walk and talk together, and eventually I learned that Emory was Jay Z’s cousin. Funny thing is, when “E” brought it up, that “I’m hooked up with one of the biggest clothing companies in the world,” I sort of shrugged it off. 1st of all, Emory wasn’t bragging, but his mentioning such a thing had no relevance insofar as our relationship was concerned. It took a lot to impress me during those tough times in prison. And 2nd, I was immune to cats telling me they knew this person and that person, and that they owned this ‘n that. Now, E didn’t come across that way; in fact, his mentioning this was a part of an ongoing conversation as he came to recognize my business savvy and discipline. But was I in for a surprise, because I thought that I was the biggest thing happening on “the compound” where it relates to talent and business combined, not to mention my helluva softball game. (More on that MUCH later) Meanwhile, E eventually whipped out a picture of him Dame, Jay, and Biggs. They were toasting at a dinner table, and by the looks of it they were ballin big time. Still, a nodded with that smidgen of doubt, since I knew hat most anyone can get a picture with a celeb, especially if you knew the right people, or if you happen to be part of the “in crowd.” What I didn’t know was how deep the E/Dame/Jay relationship was. And frankly, it still didn’t matter. E was my buddy, and we were experiencing TWS. (Time Well Spent.)
Furthermore, E was a philanthropist! He asked me what I needed to make my writing agenda comfortable. That meant commissary, money in my account, whatever. Emory did this with no strings attached, no contracts or binding agreements. He simply said to me, “I feel like you’re the Michael Jordan of this book game. And I wanna see you blow up.”
So week after week, E would use much of his “commissary spending limit” to accommodate me so that I was comfortable under the circumstances. He had that leap of faith that I’ve very rarely seen, but for my friends Steven Juliano, Tiny Wood and my sister. In my books you always see Emory Jones credited in the acknowledgements because he helped to make this possible. Just as (I’m sure) he had something to do with the early growth of Jay Z, E has also played a starring role in my life. So this BLOG I dedicate to Emory Jones who’s at the end of a long Federal Prison sentence. Thanks Emory. I’ll never forget you. WORD

You know why they call The Projects a project, because it’s a project!
An experiment, where in it, only it’s objects
And the object for us to explore our prospects
And sidestep cops on the way to the top - yes!
As kids we would daydream, sittin on our steps
Pointin at cars like yeah that’s our sex
Hustlers, prophets, made our eyes stretch
Swanson got the spot, shit we started our trek
Some of us made it, most of us digressed
In the name of those who ain’t made it my progress
Show success please live through me
See I’m the eyes for Emory, keep him alive
(This is a collect call) So everytime I press five
All he wanna hear is his boy talk fly
Up in the fed, and still holdin his head
So when he hits the streets he gon’ eat through this bread
Now let’s ride
[Chorus]
[Jay-Z - over Chorus]
Uh-huh, geah
I’m crushin ‘em all for Jones

Uh-huh… tried to told you, ride with me
[Jay-Z]

Monster of the double entendre, Coke is still my sponsor
Heh, the Cola, yeah
Hova still gettin it in with soda
Diet, no sir, I ain’t lose no weight
Started from the crates now I’m sittin on a whole case
Since they got you sittin on that old case
Our dreams is on hold like Tivo
So I can’t wait ’til you get your date
I got some temp plates outside of the gate
We gon’ ride
[Chorus]
[Jay-Z - over Chorus]
Uh-huh, uh-huh
Geah
Don’t even worry about it though, you ain’t missed nuttin
It only gets better, they got the Maybach Coupe now
Look like the Batmobile, the Phantom the top just comes off that joint

Keep your spirit alive read your books

Vibe with me, c’mon
[Jay-Z]

Word to my momma we livin!
Nothing ever quite happns as fast as you’d like it to; It’s either too slow to keep up with the bills, or it happens so fast that you miss it. If it’s too slow to keep up with a high maintenance wife, watch out, because she’ll throw you out of her house and keep the kids from you before she turns to her friends that have money, families and businesses. It’s an uphill battle that you don’t wanna fight-so just say “fuck it.” If it’s too slow, the marraige will be over and all hopes for raising a decent family will be scrapped. If it’s too slow, it will test your relationship with friends and family and show you what the term “fair weather” really means.
On the other hand, if it’s too fast you just might miss your destiny, your passion and purpose.
And BTW: Happy Thanksgiving
